Taraba State Government has ordered a total lockdown of the State, from 11 pm of Wednesday, 21 April, 2020.
The deputy governor of the State, Alhaji Haruna Manu disclosed this during a broadcast on Tuesday.
He announced that the action became necessary because of the increase
in number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in neighboring states.
Manu said the police have been directed to arrest and prosecute those
violating the lockdown, adding that movement of persons and vehicles is
banned.
He added that roadblocks have been mounted at boundaries between
Taraba and all neighbouring states, as well as all local government
areas that shared international boundaries with Cameroon.
“Mosques and Church services have also been suspended until further notice.
“Wedding, naming ceremonies and all large gatherings are banned till further notice.
“People will, however, be allowed to come out only on Wednesdays and
Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm to buy essential items, according to the
government.
“We will continue to take all necessary actions against the spread of coronavirus into the state,” he said.
The number of states with confirmed cases in Nigeria has increased to twenty-five.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, 117 cases were confirmed in Nigeria within twenty-four hours.
This brings the number of Coronavirus cases in Nigeria to a total of 782.

The Taraba State government on Wednesday announced a total lockdown of the state with effect from 11pm.
In a statewide broadcast, Deputy
Governor, Haruna Manu, said the decision followed the spread of the
deadly coronavirus pandemic to neighbouring states.
According to the directive, only partial movement would be allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 10am and 2pm.
“There will be a total lockdown
throughout the state beginning from 11pm on Wednesday, April 22 and all
violators of this directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
“Vehicles found on the road during the
period of the lockdown will be impounded. A mobile court will be
established to promptly try offenders at the various points of entry
into the state.
“Regulated movement of the public is
only allowed between 10am and 2pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays to allow
citizens to purchase household essentials.
“The only exceptions are workers on
essential duties such as health workers, pharmaceutical shops, fuel
stations, media houses and others.”
